Breakfast: Naga brands Charlie a 'spoilsport' over made up story

Naga Munchetty branded her BBC Breakfast co-star Charlie Stayt a "spoilsport" in an awkward jibe during Thursday's show (June 13).

The TV pair were presenting from the red sofa when they delved into the day's top stories. In the midst of their discussions, they tuned into a segment by Ben Boulous about new airport drop-off charges.

Ben detailed how drivers could face extra costs for lingering over ten minutes in drop-off zones at certain UK airports. Curious about the implications, Charlie quizzed Ben on how he might avoid a fine while dropping off his fictional friend Barry at the airport.

Following Ben's advice, Naga cheekily enquired: "When's Barry's next trip? Just to make sure he's organised."

However, Charlie wasn't playing along and abruptly ended the banter, stating: "Err, Barry's made up. He's not a real person." A brief silence followed, which was broken by Naga's playful jab: "You're such a spoilsport," reports the Daily Star.

Charlie chuckled away the moment before offering an apology. He jovially declared: "Well sorry Barrys out there everywhere. If you need a lift, yes obviously!"

Fans on social media platform X reacted with amusem*nt to the exchange, with one viewer jesting: "Me mate and I (barry) are away later Charlie boy. Get the engine running, need a lift."

Another chimed in with a humorous take on the situation, writing: "Re:dropoff - Of course Barry's 'made up'. He's going on holiday and gets to spend time with Charlie, that's gonna make anyone cheerful."

The news comes after Charlie was noticeably absent from the show last week. His absence came after The Sun reported that Charlie and his wife's broadcasting firm Stayt Limited had been served a petition from HMRC.

According to the publication, the pair's firm was £6,409 in the red in accounts filed in December and covering to the end of March 2023.

On June 3, the pair were reportedly served individual petitions requesting the money be paid back. Charlie and Anne have both been listed as directors for Stayt Limited, a television programming and broadcasting company.
